women men mixed Built in 1984, Bercy Arena is a large sports hall and was once the number one concert venue in France (until La Défense Arena opened recently), welcoming a plethora of international artists. Designed by architects Michel Andrault and Pierre Parat, Bercy Arena in the 12 th arrondissement of Paris has a distinctive pyramid shape and sloped sides covered with grass. In 2014 and 2015, the arena underwent extensive renovation to modernise its technological infrastructure, increase its capacity and enhance the visitor experience. The multi- purpose venue now meets the highest international standards. Bercy Arena is a versatile venue that has seen over 30 million spectators pass through its doors for hundreds of events, including athletics, basketball, equestrian, judo, handball, tennis, ice hockey, skiing, sailing and motocross events, as well as shows, conventions and concerts. At the Paris 2024 Games, Bercy Arena will demonstrate its exceptional modular design once more, hosting two major sports – gymnastics and basketball – and three disciplines one after another within a short space of time. Boasting harmonious curves and aesthetics evocative of the Grand Palais, the wooden structure was installed at Champ de Mars in early 2021, just opposite the École Militaire. Respecting the composition axis of the esplanade, the Champ-de-Mars Arena blends in perfectly with its urban surroundings. The arena will host the art, fashion and sports events that would ordinarily have taken place in the Nave of the Grand Palais were the museum not undergoing renovations, as well as cultural events organised by public cultural organisation Réunion des musées nationaux-Grand Palais. Holding these events in a prestigious, central location in the capital while the Grand Palais is being renovated will ensure they are a success and help Paris retain its position as the world capital of art and culture. The Champ-de-Mars Arena will remain in place for a few months after the renovation work is finished to provide a prestigious setting to host the Olympic and Paralympic events in Summer 2024, just a stone’s throw away from other competition venues such as the Eiffel Tower Stadium and Invalides. The Champ-de-Mars Arena was designed as a modular structure that could be put up and taken down quickly, which means that it will be able to be reused in various configurations after it leaves its current home at Champ de Mars in Autumn 2024. The project meets present-day environmental requirements by using sustainable materials and choosing a wooden structure for the building. 60 kg 67 kg 77 kg 87 kg 97 kg 130 kg Discipline: Greco-roman 6 events : 6 OLYMPIC GAMES PARALYMPIC GAMES JUDO 15 events: 7 / 7 / 1 WRESTLING Discipline: Freestyle 12 events: 6 / 6 The Champ-de-Mars Arena – known as the “Grand Palais Éphémère” until now – is a 10,000 m² temporary building designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. - 60 kg - 66 kg - 73 kg - 81 kg - 90 kg - 100 kg + 100 kg - 48 kg - 52 kg - 57 kg - 63 kg - 70 kg - 78 kg + 78 kg Mixed Team 57 kg 65 kg 74 kg 86 kg 97 kg 125 kg 50 kg 53 kg 57 kg 62 kg 68 kg 76 kg PARA JUDO Information to be determined WHEELCHAIR RUGBY Information to be determined CHAMP-DE-MARS ARENA P A R I S 2 0 2 4 O LY M P I C A N D P A R A LY M P I C V E N U E S : D A T A S H E E T 8

women men mixed PORTE DE LA CHAPELLE ARENA The new arena was designed to be an animated space accessible to all that catered for the needs of local residents, offering them a range of sports activities before and after the Games. Meeting a need identified by Paris City Council before the Games bid, the arena will be able to accommodate 8,000 people for basketball games and 9,000 for concerts, which means its capacity lies between the Pierre de Coubertin stadium (4,000) and Bercy Arena (17,000). The new arena’s chosen design is distinctly eco-friendly: 80% of the building will be covered in greenery to blend in with its surroundings, giving it a fresh look. With a recyclable aluminium facade, the building will be designed using mainly bio-sourced and low-carbon materials, prioritising reuse wherever possible. The multi-purpose venue at Porte de la Chapelle, a working-class area, will mark the beginning of redevelopment work across the capital’s 18 th arrondissement. The Arena, which is expected to be completed by summer 2023, will be home to the “Paris Basket” club. It will also provide the French swimming movement with the cutting-edge sports facility it has been waiting decades for. The French Swimming Federation will be able to use the centre to host national and international competitions for its four indoor disciplines. The centre will also provide a national training centre for elite athletes, as well as an advanced development centre for divers. The Aquatics Centre is one of the two permanent sports facilities being built for the Paris 2024 Games, the other being Le Bourget Sport Climbing Venue. It will benefit not only residents of Seine- Saint-Denis, a department where there is a lack of swimming pools and where one in two children aged 11 cannot swim, but also the French swimming movement, which will finally have access to a facility that lives up to its potential and its ambitions to help prepare top French swimmers and host major national and international competitions, such as the European Aquatics Championships and the World Aquatics Championships. The Aquatics Centre will be built opposite the Stade the France in Saint-Denis, less than 2 km from the Olympic and Paralympic Village. A walkway over the A1 motorway will link the two facilities. During the Games, the centre will be configured to host the artistic swimming, water polo and diving competitions. Designed using bio- sourced materials only, the Aquatics Centre is a low-carbon facility that is committed to its energy and environmental performance, as demonstrated by the 5,000 m² of photovoltaic panels installed on its roof. Catering to the needs of all users (whether curious beginners, leisure lovers or seasoned competitors), the Aquatics Centre will house a range of sports facilities after the Games, including a fitness area, a climbing wall, paddle tennis courts and pitches for team sports. women men mixed PARA EQUESTRIAN Information to be determined The iconic, world-famous Château de Versailles – a symbol of France’s influence on the world stage – will be adapted to host the Paris 2024 Games in a magnificent setting steeped in history. In 1979, the palace and its majestic gardens became the first French site to be added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Evolving from a mere hunting lodge into an extravagant palace under Louis XIV, the Château de Versailles went on to become the Museum of the History of France by order of King Louis-Philippe. It is also where the upper and lower houses of the French Parliament convene for joint sessions. Today, the estate spans over 800 ha and is a textbook example of French formal gardens, home to the “Royal Star”, a circular esplanade at the western end of the Grand Canal. The esplanade will feature a temporary facility where the dressage and jumping events (including for the eventing competition), the modern pentathlon events and the Paralympic dressage events will take place. With a strong equestrian tradition dating back to the 17 th century, the Château de Versailles and its sustainable infrastructure will provide a magnificent setting for the Olympic and Paralympic equestrian events, helping boost the sport’s visibility. Accessible to all, the hill will provide a safe, clean location for mountain bikers of all abilities, walkers and runners to use and families to go for a stroll within regenerated surroundings. The transformed site will also offer ideal conditions in which to hold national and international mountain bike competitions. Élancourt Hill in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is located between Élancourt and Trappes, 7 km away from the track cycling venue Vélodrome National. Reaching 231 m, the summit is the highest point in the Greater Paris region and offers clear views of the Eiffel Tower, La Défense business district and the forests around Paris. The site on which the artificial hill stands was once home to sandstone quarries that supplied materials to entrepreneurs. After the quarries shut in the mid-1900s, it was used as a landfill site until 1975. In the 1980s, an ambitious rehabilitation programme transformed the hill into a park the general public could use for leisure purposes. All the work required to stage the Olympic mountain bike events and deliver their legacy has been designed to minimise the impact on local biodiversity. No major infrastructure is due to be built – 95% of the Olympic routes designed by South African expert Nick Floros are based on existing trails. The variety of legacy trails means there will be something for absolutely everybody, including young children, families and seasoned athletes. In concrete terms, choosing Élancourt Hill as a venue will help strengthen and structure existing sports participation and enhance the site’s environmental status. The project will leave a threefold (sporting, social and environmental) legacy for Saint-Quentin- en-Yvelines, which will become a cycling hotspot where people not involved in sport can access an important legacy and local biodiversity is enhanced and celebrated. women men mixed The Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en- Yvelines, which is around 30 km from Paris, is one of the most prestigious golf courses in Europe. Owned by the French Golf Federation, it was designed as a permanent venue for the Open de France annual golf tournament and a national training facility. Following three years of construction work to transform 139 ha of flat land, the Golf National opened in 1991. Starting with a blank canvas, course designer Hubert Chesneau and consultant Robert Von Hagge sought to create a unique landscape with natural grandstands, a number of links-style bunkers and vast undulating fairways. The venue comprises a seven-hole training course and two eight- hole courses, including the “Albatros” – a highly complex, challenging 18-hole course used for major international competitions that was extensively renovated for the 2018 Ryder Cup. The Golf National has long been committed to promoting sustainable practices – for instance, by collaborating with the French Ministry for the Ecological Transition – in a bid to enhance its environmental stewardship and protect its heritage. women men mixed GRAND PALAIS On Avenue des Champs-Elysées in the 8 th arrondissement, the Grand Palais is an iconic monument – a true jewel in Paris’ crown. Along with the elegant Pont Alexandre III and the Esplanade des Invalides, it is part of a magnificent cluster of competition venues in the very heart of the city. The Grand Palais was designed by a group of architects for the 1900 Paris Exposition, with the Olympic Games taking place in the capital the same year. The building was built in the style of Beaux-Arts architecture using the most advanced techniques of the time. The nave alone contains 6,000 tons of steel. The Grand Palais has been extensively restored over the years to modernise its infrastructure and ensure it retains its architectural splendour. The latest work – the most extensive to date – will be carried out from 2021 to 2023. With two million visitors attending a total of over 40 events each year in the 77,000 m² exhibition hall, the venue can accommodate a range of events, including exhibitions, fashion shows, corporate galas and sports competitions like the memorable 2010 World Fencing Championships. Paris’ Hôtel de Ville, and the square to which it gives its name, have recently been added to the list of prestigious sites which will play host to some of the Olympic events in the heart of the capital. Others include the Grand Palais, Les Invalides and Place de la Concorde. The marathon will depart from the site, steeped in history, where Paris’ municipal authorities have sat since 1357. The current building, after the neo- Renaissance style, was rebuilt by architects Théodore Ballu and Édouard Deperthes on the site of the former Hôtel de Ville, which was burned by the Paris Commune in 1871. It is particularly noteworthy for its majestic façade, 143m long and 18.8m high (26.8m, at the corner towers, and 50m for the bell tower). Formerly known as Place de Grève, today the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville is a veritable hub for activities, exhibitions and culture. Surrounded by spectacular gardens, the Hôtel des Invalides was built in 1687 under Louis XIV as a military hospital and a retirement home for war veterans. Today, the world- famous complex contains museums and monuments linked to France’s military history, as well as Napoléon Bonaparte’s tomb. women men mixed Paris 2024 made a strong commitment to organise spectacular Games that take place outside of traditional stadiums, right in the heart of the capital. Place de La Concorde will temporarily become an open stage where urban sports take place in their original playground, the city centre. Not only is this an excellent example of Paris 2024’s vision coming to life, it also paves the way for Paris City Council to make significant changes to the area in the long run. Linking the most beautiful avenue in the world – the Champs- Élysées – to the Tuileries Gardens, La Concorde will showcase spectacular, dynamic and modern sports against a backdrop of Parisian heritage. The largest square in Paris will see four sports – as well as a number of activities and shows – take centre stage during the Olympic Games: skateboarding, BMX freestyle, 3x3 basketball and, for the first time, the long-awaited discipline, breaking. Spectators, athletes and viewers will be able to enjoy exceptional images and an experience that lives up to their expectations of the world’s largest sporting event. Just a stone’s throw away from a number of other iconic competition venues, such as the Champ-de-Mars Arena and the Invalides, La Concorde will be at the heart of an authentic urban park surrounded by the many monuments dotted around the city centre, making Games history. Life naturally revolves around the sea in Marseille, with the Mediterranean on its doorstep and optimal sailing conditions. A combination of factors – the quality of the sailing area, a relatively constant wind, the orientation of the coastline relative to prevailing winds, as well as the absence of tides and currents – guarantees ideal tactical and strategic conditions for the competitors. The prime location of this existing venue will enable thousands of spectators to watch the action. Marseille – recognised internationally for its expertise in organising and hosting water sports events – and its marina are an ideal venue for the Paris 2024 sailing competitions. The Roucas Blanc marina – the starting point for the boats – will be adapted for the Games to ensure it can accommodate such a large- scale competition. The programme involves building around 7,000 m² of structures and reorganising 17,000 m² of outdoor spaces, as well as redeveloping the Roucas Blanc basin, guaranteeing an outstanding competition venue. The Parc des Princes is a stadium synonymous with French sport, particularly football. It hosted major national and international competitions until the Stade de France opened in 1998 and is the home ground of Paris Saint-Germain. The stadium is located in the 16 th arrondissement of Paris, just beside the Roland-Garros stadium (where the tennis, boxing, wheelchair tennis and sitting volleyball competitions will take place) and the Jean Bouin stadium. Open since 1972, it was designed by Roger Taillibert, the architect behind Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. Its unique design ensures spectators enjoy a clear view of the action from their seats, which are all within 45 m of the pitch. The Parc des Princes was the first European stadium with lighting systems in its ring-shaped cantilevered roof, providing unobstructed views. It is renowned for its unparalleled acoustics and distinctive concrete shell. The stadium has evolved over time, adapting as standards changed over the past 40 years. The latest phase of renovation work – finished in 2015, just in time for Euro 2016 – involved creating a number of hospitality lounges, adding in two new rows of seating closer to the pitch, replacing 47,000 seats, installing a new-generation grass pitch and refurbishing all player and spectator facilities for an enhanced experience. Located at Porte de Saint Cloud, the Parc des Princes is easy to reach from the ring road around Paris or on public transport (Metro and bus lines). The Pont Alexandre III will play a major part in the ‘Paris centre’ arrangements during the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. The bridge, which links two competition venues – Les Invalides and the Grand Palais – will, itself, host the triathlon, the cycling time trial (serving as the finish line) and the marathon swimming. The site, on which temporary infrastructure will be built, played a major role in 2017, when Paris’ bid to host the Games was still ongoing. For Olympic Day on 23 June 2017, a diving board was built on the bridge, and a floating running track was installed along the Seine beside it. Pont Alexandre III is no stranger to large events, given that it was opened to mark the Paris Exposition in 1900. The bridge was designed to symbolise friendship between Russia and France, established by the 1891 signing of the alliance between Emperor Alexander III of Russia and President of the French Republic Sadi Carnot. It was built under the supervision of engineers Jean Résal and Amédée Alby, and the architects Cassien-Bernard and Gaston Cousin. The 45m-wide metal bridge is a single arch, 107m long, including three joints, which allows it to cross the Seine with no additional supports. In and of itself, it is a veritable tourist attraction, which will offer Olympic spectators a breathtaking view of the sporting events, and some of the most beautiful monuments of Paris. For the occasion, the Pont d’Iéna will be completely decked out in temporary installations, allowing the best possible conditions for the viewing public, but also a unique experience for the athletes taking part in the race walk and the cycling road race. 155m long and 35m wide, the Pont d’Iéna was built between 1808 and 1814 by engineer Francois Laurent Lamandé. It is one of Paris’ 37 bridges spanning the Seine. It was the first bridge to be built in the wake of Napoleon I’s victory at Jena in 1806. The structure is made up of five 28m semicircular arches and four mid-span piers. Looking beyond the Games, the two facilities are something Seine-Saint-Denis – a department with a lack of sports facilities, ranking 103 rd out of 105 – both needs and expects. Five climbing walls will be used during the Games: one indoor warm-up wall in a purpose built sports hall (part of the lasting legacy of the Games) and four outdoor walls, including three competition walls (for the two events on the programme, i.e. speed and the combined boulder and lead event) and one warm-up wall. The facility will be at the heart of a Games cluster just a stone’s throw away from the media village in Dugny and La Courneuve Shooting Range, and relatively near the Stade de France and the Aquatics Centre 5 km away. The Stade de France – the Olympic Stadium for the Paris 2024 Games – is the largest stadium in France. Since it opened in 1998, it has been the focal point of all major national and international sporting events held in France. Located in Saint-Denis, just outside Paris, the stadium was designed by a team of architects – Macary, Zublena, Regembal and Costantini – to be used as the main stadium for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Covering 17 ha, this 320 m long, 280 m wide, 35 m high modular stadium, which boasts 18 electronic entrance gates and can accommodate up to 80,000 spectators, is the largest of its kind in the world. The retractable lower-tier seating can be moved to reveal the permanent athletics track. The stadium’s elliptical roof fully covers the stands. The 8,000 m² sand-and-soil pitch harnesses advanced hybrid grass technology, guaranteeing excellent drainage and water retention capacities. The Stade de France has an annex stadium that can be used for warm-ups and practice sessions. It is connected to the stadium via an underground walkway. As well as hosting major sporting events – like the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the 2003 IAAF World Athletics Championships, the 2007 Rugby World Cup, the 2016 UEFA European Football Championship and the upcoming 2023 Rugby World Cup – the Stade de France is home to the French football and rugby teams and hosts concerts by top name artists from France and around the world, as well as important football and rugby finals every year. Saint-Étienne, a city in the Auvergne- Rhône-Alpes region, is the French design capital and the only French city to be included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for design. These achievements are a nod not only to the economic and industrial past of a city at its innovative best for over two centuries, but also – and more importantly – to the momentum that is currently building in the Greater Saint-Étienne area, where 400,000 people live. An international event takes place every two years to showcase this momentum, comprising of exhibitions, workshops and colloquia and fostering a creative economy. Saint-Étienne was awarded the City of Art and History label by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication in 2000 and became a member of UNESCO’s International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities in 2019. Geoffroy Guichard stadium – named after its founder, a well-known local entrepreneur – is a mythical French sports venue that is home to legendary club AS Saint-Étienne. Built in 1931, the stadium – nicknamed the “Cauldron” – has been renovated several times. The most recent work, delivered in early 2016, brought its capacity up to 42,000 while maintaining the original architectural characteristics of an “English-style” stadium. Access to the stadium was also improved as part of the work, which was rounded off by a new tram connection in 2019. The stadium also houses the Musée des Verts, a museum exploring the history of the AS Saint-Étienne football team. In 2007, it became the first French stadium to install solar panels on its roof. The leisure park was extensively renovated recently. The work involved building a white water centre with a 250 m slalom course, modernising the 2,200 m rowing and sprint course, as well as building related infrastructure, a media centre and accommodation for athletes and visitors. Open since June 2019, the new Île-de-France Water Sports Centre will be the venue of choice for the canoe/kayak and rowing events at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is one of the only three centres worldwide – the other two being in Beijing and Sydney – that bring together the three Olympic and Paralympic canoe/kayak events – slalom, sprint and para canoe – as well as rowing. One of the major advantages of the centre is that it was designed with the people who could use it before and after the 2024 Games in mind and meets elite athletes’ rigorous standards. Located on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne park, it is just a stone’s throw away from the Parc des Princes, where some of the football events will be held during the Games. Named after French aviator Roland Garros, the stadium was built in 1928 to host France’s Davis Cup in a venue worthy of the French athletes’ exploits. The stadium has also hosted one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments – the French Open, organised by the French Tennis Federation – every year since its opening. Covering 12 ha and featuring 18 clay courts, the stadium has been extended and upgraded several times over the years to compete with the other Grand Slam venues. It was last upgraded between 2015 and 2021 – the most extensive renovations to date – as part of a six-year project that completed its transformation. The work involved rebuilding the Philippe Chatrier court (the 15,000-seater centre court now has a state-of-the-art retractable roof comprising eleven 300-ton trusses, which can be opened or closed in 15 minutes) and building the Simonne Mathieu court (a 5,000-seater court in the Serres d’Auteuil botanical garden). The Roland Garros stadium, a key Paris 2024 venue, will host a total of four sports: tennis and boxing during the Olympic Games (fun historical fact: the stadium already hosted major boxing matches back in the 1970s) and wheelchair tennis and sitting volleyball during the Paralympic Games. Upon completion, the stadium will offer local residents, associations, schools and universities a wide range of sports facilities – suitable for football, rugby, athletics and field hockey – and house the French Hockey Federation’s headquarters and national training centre. Owned by the Hauts-de-Seine department, the Yves-du-Manoir stadium – which was the main venue for the Paris 1924 Games – is one of the most iconic stadiums in French sporting history. The stadium in Colombes, north-west of Paris, gets its name from French rugby player Yves du Manoir. Architect Louis Faure- Dujarric transformed an existing facility into a stadium that would serve as the main venue for the 1924 Olympic Games and the capital’s main stadium until the Parc des Princes was built in 1972. Designed to accommodate a range of sports, the Yves-du- Manoir stadium hosted a number of national and international competitions throughout the 20 th century, including almost 250 fixtures across a range of disciplines such as athletics, rugby, football and boxing. In 1972, boxers Jean-Claude Bouttier and Carlos Monzón vied for the title of world middleweight champion in front of a crowd of 40,000 at the stadium. The stadium, which has been renovated regularly over the years, is due to undergo extensive upgrading works, benefitting people living in the Hauts-de-Seine department. It will host the field hockey events during the Paris 2024 Games. After the Games, the French Hockey Federation will set up its headquarters in the stadium. The venue will house the federation’s national training centre (including two artificial hockey pitches for competitions and training) in one of the two new buildings, feature a permanent 1,000-seater stand, and provide premises for the federation, the Île-de-France Hockey League, the Hauts-de-Seine Hockey Committee and, eventually, a resident club. Additionally, four football pitches and three rugby pitches with floodlights, a second building for football and rugby, as well as a new athletics track will be built on the existing playing field. After the Games, the 13 ha site will be connected to the Georges Valbon departmental park, the third largest in the Greater Paris region. The Paris 2024 shooting events will take place at the Terrain des Essences in La Courneuve in the Seine Saint-Denis department. Spanning 13 ha, the Terrain des Essences – a former fuel storage site owned by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces that is now abandoned – needs to be cleaned up, redeveloped and regenerated by 2024. The 15 Olympic shooting events, as well as the Paralympic shooting events (number of events to be determined) will take place in temporary facilities, namely two indoor competition halls and one outdoor facility. After the Games, the Terrain des Essences will become a natural area connected to the 417 ha Georges Valbon departmental park (which includes a 310 ha Natura 2000 site), with an entrance on avenue Waldeck Rochet, near the Dugny-La Courneuve stop on tramline T11. Extending the park and creating new landscaped areas in La Courneuve – a strong environmental legacy of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games – provides a unique opportunity to bring together habitats and biodiversity while ensuring existing natural habitats continue to thrive. Minor, temporary adjustments made for the Games will not remain in place after the competition. Having made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games, the surfing competition will take place in fitting surroundings. Teahupo’o will put athletes to the Olympic test as they put on a breathtaking show that will leave spectators and viewers speechless. Choosing a surfing hotspot like Tahiti – the birthplace of surfing – is sure to make for an exceptional competition. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to involve France’s overseas departments and territories and the people who live there in the Olympic Games for the first time ever, as well as celebrate France’s rich, diverse heritage. Tahiti has hosted international surfing competitions for over 20 years. Its legendary Teahupo’o wave is among the trickiest in the world and certainly one of the most spectacular at that time of year. It is seen as the ultimate challenge by accomplished surfers, some of whom – including Gabriel Medina, Kelly Slater, Jérémy Florès, Andy Irons and Mark Occhilupo – have had the honour of conquering it. Teahupo’o was part the women’s surfing circuit between 1999 and 2006, and the circuit will soon return to the iconic site. For the Games, Paris 2024 is committed to respectfully enhancing the venue, which will help conserve the outstanding local environment. The competition will adapt to the venue and its features – not the other way around. The live sites will give spectators a chance to enjoy the show while celebrating Polynesian culture, the Olympic spirit and the values championed by Paris 2024.
