It will also provide the French swimming movement with the cutting-edge sports facility it has been waiting decades for. The French Swimming Federation will be able to use the centre to host national and international competitions for its four indoor disciplines. The centre will also provide a national training centre for elite athletes, as well as an advanced development centre for divers. The Aquatics Centre is one of the two permanent sports facilities being built for the Paris 2024 Games, the other being Le Bourget Sport Climbing Venue. It will benefit not only residents of Seine- Saint-Denis, a department where there is a lack of swimming pools and where one in two children aged 11 cannot swim, but also the French swimming movement, which will finally have access to a facility that lives up to its potential and its ambitions to help prepare top French swimmers and host major national and international competitions, such as the European Aquatics Championships and the World Aquatics Championships. The Aquatics Centre will be built opposite the Stade the France in Saint-Denis, less than 2 km from the Olympic and Paralympic Village. A walkway over the A1 motorway will link the two facilities. During the Games, the centre will be configured to host the artistic swimming, water polo and diving competitions. Designed using bio- sourced materials only, the Aquatics Centre is a low-carbon facility that is committed to its energy and environmental performance, as demonstrated by the 5,000 m² of photovoltaic panels installed on its roof. Catering to the needs of all users (whether curious beginners, leisure lovers or seasoned competitors), the Aquatics Centre will house a range of sports facilities after the Games, including a fitness area, a climbing wall, paddle tennis courts and pitches for team sports.
