Champ de Mars in Paris is an iconic location for national events and celebrations. Extending from the Eiffel Tower to the École Militaire, this large public urban park at the heart of the capital’s 7 th arrondissement boasts exceptional surroundings. Over the course of the 18 th and 20 th centuries, the area known as the plain of Grenelle gradually transformed into the 24 ha park we know today. Champ de Mars is a popular choice among locals and tourists to go for a walk, exercise, play music or simply meet up with people. It features a large 800 m long grass strip flanked by trees and landscaped areas and offers a clear view of the Eiffel Tower, which lights up after dark. A temporary 12,000-seater stadium will be built in the middle of the park, near the “Bassins du Champ de Mars” fountain – just a stone’s throw away from competition venues such as the Champ-de-Mars Arena and the Pont d’Iéna – against the dramatic backdrop of the most iconic monument in Paris. Extensive redevelopment work will be carried out on the other side of the Eiffel Tower from the Pont d’Iéna to the Trocadéro area to create a long, nature-filled promenade for pedestrians.
