women men mixed The Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en- Yvelines, which is around 30 km from Paris, is one of the most prestigious golf courses in Europe. Owned by the French Golf Federation, it was designed as a permanent venue for the Open de France annual golf tournament and a national training facility. Following three years of construction work to transform 139 ha of flat land, the Golf National opened in 1991. Starting with a blank canvas, course designer Hubert Chesneau and consultant Robert Von Hagge sought to create a unique landscape with natural grandstands, a number of links-style bunkers and vast undulating fairways. The venue comprises a seven-hole training course and two eight- hole courses, including the “Albatros” – a highly complex, challenging 18-hole course used for major international competitions that was extensively renovated for the 2018 Ryder Cup. The Golf National has long been committed to promoting sustainable practices – for instance, by collaborating with the French Ministry for the Ecological Transition – in a bid to enhance its environmental stewardship and protect its heritage.
