At the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the Pont d’Iéna offers an exceptional view for the road cycling and the athletics (20km race walk). It will be part of a broader area where the Games take place. That includes the competition venues of the Grand Palais, the Pont Alexandre III, the Stade tour Eiffel and the Arena Champ-de-Mars, but also the nearby Trocadéro, where the Live des Jeux experience is based. For the occasion, the Pont d’Iéna will be completely decked out in temporary installations, allowing the best possible conditions for the viewing public, but also a unique experience for the athletes taking part in the race walk and the cycling road race. 155m long and 35m wide, the Pont d’Iéna was built between 1808 and 1814 by engineer Francois Laurent Lamandé. It is one of Paris’ 37 bridges spanning the Seine. It was the first bridge to be built in the wake of Napoleon I’s victory at Jena in 1806. The structure is made up of five 28m semicircular arches and four mid-span piers. The bridge links Quai Branly, the Champ-de-Mars and the Eiffel Tower on the left bank to the Trocadéro Gardens on the right.
